Mission Statement
“Develop the science, engineering, and technology required to reliably deflect or disrupt large asteroids or comets that could collide with Earth and cause a global climate change or the end of civilization.”
About ADRC
The Asteroid Deflection Research Center (ADRC) was established on the Iowa State campus in April 2008 to bring researchers from around the world to develop asteroid deflection technologies.
The ADRC plans to develop an integrated multidisciplinary research and development program for asteroid deflection/fragmentation using high-energy as well as low-energy options.
Professor Bong Wie, Vance Coffman Endowed Chair Professor in Aerospace Engineering, Iowa State University is the founding Director of this Center. Wie joined the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Iowa State University in August 2007. His research expertise includes space vehicle dynamics and control, modeling and control of large space structures, and solar sail flight control system development and mission design.
